Old house saved
PA Wellington Bowing to the pressure of a 12-month campaign to stop an old Wellington house being demolished for a motel project, Williams Development Holdings announced yesterday that the house would be gifted to a trust.
The trust will ,be known as the Inverlochy House Trust after the name of the house, which occupies a choice site in the centre of Wellington: Valued at $lOO,OOO, the house will be administered by .the trust to house an art gallery for the city. Williams Holdings intended to clear the site for a motel project but has bowed to months of public opposi-
tion led by the former tenants. The house has been empty since the last of the tenants was evicted-recently. Williams Holdings now intends to develop its motel at the rear of Inverlochy.
