Bullit romps away

PA Auckland The French yacht Bullit continued to dominate the world quarter-ton series by scoring its third win in four races over an Olympic course at Auckland yesterday’. As in the earlier races when the wind dropped below 20 knots Bullit romped away from the fleet. Its winning margin yesterday over the New Zealand yacht Hellaby (John Lash<y) was 4min Bs. Anchor Challenge (N.Z., Roy Dickson) slipped into third place ahead of Hi Flyer (Hong Kong, Neil Pryde). While Bullit, with three wins, looks the likely champion, the contest is far from

over. It will be decided on the long off-shore race of the Aquasun series starting today. Bullit has amassed 79-7/S points but Hellaby has never been placed worse than third and has totalled 76} points. The long off-shore race scores double points which means that Lasher and his crew have only to get one boat between themselves and Bullit to take the title.

Hi Flyer (701) will have to beat Bullit by five places to have a chance. At the end of the race Continental Fun (Chris Dickson) was flying a protest flag, a sign that placings and points could only be provisional with a possibility of a protest being heard later.
