Selectors returned
Despite the. .-' Canterbury rugby team’s disappointing record last winter there is apparently nd lack ; of, confidence in the selectdrcoaches; Messrs . Gerald Wilson rand Neil Cornelius. ' Last evening the Canterbury union's management committee took only a few minutes to reappoint Messrs Wilson and Cornelius for another term. Each man gained the required 50 per cent of the vote — Mr Wilson as the back selector and Mr Cornelius as the forward selector — on the first ballot. . Mr Wilson -was opposed byßill . Haase, Fergie McCormick, Brent Moore
and John Creighton, while Mr Cornelius’s rivals were Mr Creighton, who stood in both categories, Ken Jane and Andy Holland. Mr Wilson said later last evening that he was pleased to be given another season, as he believed both he and Mr Cornelius had something to prove. It will be Mr Wilson’s fifth year in the job and Mr Cornelius’s second. “I am sure that the talent is there to fashion a very good side and hopefully the playing record will improve. It takes time to build a top side, and I think the All Blacks this year showed this,” Mr Wilson said.
