Low snow likely
Snow down to 800 metres is predicted for inland Canterbury today, and more rain and cold weather throughout the rest of the province. The cold snap was expected to continue for several davs as successive southerly fronts moved up the South Island, said a spokesman for the weather office at Christchurch Airport. Water flowed a few centimetres deep over a short stretch of Clarendon Terrace, Opawa and over footpaths near Tovey Street and Union Street, New Brighton. No property was damaged. A spokesman fo , ‘ the Lyttelton Harbour Board said the tide had been 282 mm higher than predicted — possibly because the air pressure was lower than normal.
