East-Shirley, St Albans win six-a-side cricket
' East-Shirley in the men’s section and St Albans in the women’s grade were the successful teams in the finals of the Dominion Breweries Sydenham six-a-side cricket ' tournament on Sunday. The East-Shirley men’s team had its second successive win. but the final was a iclose thing against Suburban. East batted first and [made 51. With one over remaining. Suburban needed eight runs and wanted four off the last ball.
The ball went just a few metres and the batsmen
started running and kept! running as chaos reigned p among the fieldsmen. By the j time a run-out was effected, |i the bstsmen had made three! to leave the scores tied, i East won on a count-back, j having lost fewer wickets. h In the semi-finals. She [ made 3$ not out ’ (four ’ fours and two sixes) in the St i Albans lota! of 61 for none land Bumside-West was restricted to 37 for one. In the section finals. St Albans (43/1) beat Sydenham (27/0) and Burnside(West beat Lancaster Park. Ilhe winning St Albans team was Burtt, Jill Jamieson. I Kay Gilray. Karen Hadlee. I Margaret Francis and Saliy ißusseli.
