Insurance staff back at work
Christchurch insurance workers returned to work yesterday, after striking on Friday over award claims.
They have threatened to take more action, such as refusing to handle certain documents or working to rule, but no action is expected until Thursday or Friday, after the national conference of the Insurance Workers’ Union, now being held in Christchurch. I
Auckland and Hamilton! workers also went on strike: last Friday and returned toi work yesterday, and Dune-1
din workers will strike on December 10. A guest at the three-day conference is the Federal president of the Australian
insurance Employees Union, Mr Phil Reilly, who is also vice-president’ of the Australian Council of Trade Unions. The union’s president, Mr D. Burkhill, told the conference yesterday that the unprecedented strike, in three of the four main centres,
