Accident cover policy detail
Parliamentary reporter No cover under the Accident Compensation Commission will be provided for New Zealanders travelling overseas, including sportsmen chosen to represent their country, according to the Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger). The question had been considered by the Cabinetcaucus committee on accident compensation, which decided that it was “not unreasonable” for travellers and sports bodies to continue to arrange cover through existing private-
sector insurance companies. The Accident Compensation Act, 1972, did pYovide cover in some specific cases. These were servicemen on duty overseas, or people travelling overseas on business while still receiving a New Zea-land-paid income. Mr Bolger was replying to a question in Parliament by Mr M. A. Connelly (Labour, ' Yaldhurst) as to whether he would > review the legislation to provide cover for travelling sportsmen.
