E.E.C. must be heeded
Mr Saburo Okita, Japan’s chief trade negotiator, has returned from talks in Brussels saying Japan should not ignore the irritation felt by Europeans over growing Japanese exports to the European Common Market. Mr Okita, who had talks with leading E.E.C. Commission officials said Japan had to show its understanding of the distress felt by the European economies. Japan’s exports, including cars and colour television sets, to the Common Market rose 30 per cent in the first nine months of this year over the same period a’ year earlier, and are expected to reach well over SUS 9 billion in value by the end of the year. — Tokyo.
