Town team named
The Town cricket team announced last evening to play Country at Hagley Oval on November 15 and 16 has a decidedly experimental appearance.
There is a strong blend of experienced Shell Series players, promising youngsters, and players who have made a favourable impression in the opening rounds of club competition. Ashley Hart has been given a chance to display his wicket-keeping skills; Peter Rattray receives his opportunity as an opening batsman; and East-Shirley's leading wicket taker, Craig Thiele, will share the new ball with Glen Bateman.
Two leading candidates for the Canterbury Rothmans XI, Richard Leggat and David Boyle, have also been named in the team. However, two more Canterbury Xi’s will be named in the next few weeks, to play Canterbury and New Zealand Rothmans Xis, and several changes are certain to be made. The Town team is: Cran Bull (captain), Rattray, Dayle Hadlee, Vaughan Brown, Leggat, Dave Dempsey, Hart, Boyle, David Stead, Bateman, Thiele.
