President

The president of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association this year is Mr Brian Page of Mount Lowry Station. Wbiterock.

Mr Page runs 5000 sheep and 300 head of cattle on his 3200 hectare hill country property. He has also sold and bred ponies and hacks virtually al! his life. Tn February this year he brought out an English riding stallion which he says is a good breed with terrific potential for crossing with the better N>w Zealand riding ponies.

• In the last few years Mr Page has exported riding ponies to Australia. He also runs a few brood mares, and ten years ago established the Mount Lowry Hereford Stud. Mr Page has been closely associated with the activities of the Northern A. and P. Association hroughout his life. During the 30 years that he has farmed at Mount Lowry Station. Mr Page was chairman of the Horse Section of the show for 10 years until he was made president. He has competed regularly' in dog trials and has been on the Loburn Collie Club committee for 30 years, a councillor for Ashley County for 15 years and a member of the local school committee. As a farmer with a strong interest in horses, Mr Page founded the Ashley Polo Club and played polo up until three years ago. He says that when you have “jumped, hunted and shown horses all your life it is quite natural to want to carry on with polo.” The difficulty New Zealander’s find when they want to play the game is keeping at least two horses exercised daily. The horses have to be as fit as a racehorse to play polo.
