Christchurch remand
A man, aged 25, charged with robbing , a woman of $1994 in cash from the Manurewa South Post Office, last Friday, was remanded without plea to October 30 by Judge Fraser in the District Court yesterday. Ray Wereta, unemployed, of no fixed abode, is jointly charged with Douglas Charles Hamilton and Lester Hamilton of robbing Karen Christine Hirawani of the money.
Counsel (Mr K. J. Grave) said the defendant was unable to appear as he was in hospital after having part of an arm . removed — the result of a shotgun blast which caused gas gangrene. Mr Grave said there was no application for bail. The remand was in custody. Wereta was reported to be in a fairly comfortable condition in Christchurch Hospital last evening.
