Gould saves match for Queensland
NZPA Bristol The Wallaby full-back, Roger Gould, kept Queensland’s colours flying with a 50-metre penalty in |he last minutes to salvage a 9-9 draw, against Bristol yesterday. Gould’s kick, from just outside his own half, also ensured that the maroons kept their unbeaten record on their short tour of Europe. They have now won two games and drawn tvfo since arriving in Britain a fortnight ago. ffhe scoreline, made/up entirely of penalty goals, scarcely did justice to a hard match in which the Queenslanders found it difficult to adjust to the soft conditions and a greasy ball. The backs showed touches of their class in the first half, but their opportunities were linaßed. - - ■
The damp made the going more difficult for the Queensland pack, and they were frequently under pressure in the set scrums. Bristol opened the scoring When Brendan Moon was penalised for a high tackle, but Gould soon levelled. Bristol went ahead again when the five-eighth, David Sorrell, landed his second penalty, but again Gould countered with a fine effort from more than 45 metres. That: made it 6-6 at halftime, although Bristol had come close to scoring a try after a breakdown in the Queensland back line." Both kickers missed opportunities in the second half until Sorrell found the target after a reck offence to make it 9-6.
