PA Wellington Construction industry costs still are growing rapidly, according 'to the Building Industry Advisory’ Council. ' The council’s latest newsletter shows that the three main cost indices have all risen steeply during the year ended June 30, 1980. The council’s own building cost index increased 21 per cent in that period, compared with 13.7 per cent in the previous year. The Ministry of Works and Development' construction cost index leapt 28.8 per cent (11.7 per cent) and the Institute of Valuers’ house building
cost index rose I4.‘T per. cent (9.7 per cent)'. The council reported a downward trend of 1.3 per; cent (0.7 per cent) in the Institute of Valuers’ index for section prices and a rise of 6.6 per cent (1.5 per cent) in the institute's house price index. “The movements ■> . « indicate continuing high rates of inflation,” the council said. Although costs would continue to move upward strongly the council forecast some slowing between now and Marcn 31. New building costs were likely to increase an average 18 per cent and construction costs 23 per cent for the current year.
