Birthday band
Network Two’s Sunday Special, “The New Zealand Army Band Family Show,” features the New Zealand Army Band entertaining an audience of 2000 local schoolchildren in a musical family show recorded in April in the Christchurch Town Hall. Under the leadership of Major Jim Carson. M.8.E., the 40-man band plays a number of well-known tunes including themes from “Star Wars.” “Chips,” “The Pink Panther,” “Rocky.” “Grease,” the popular Rod Stewart hit, “Sailing,” the “1812 Overture,” and a variety of big band music. In celebration of the band’s 16th birthday the show ends with a big disco party complete with an enormous cake and hundreds of balloons, to the delight of all the children.
