PA r. . Wellington The Minister of Justice (Mr McLay) moved that Parliament allow ' the Privileges Committee to sit during .'the hours of Parliament tomorrow when the House sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday.

Members. moved four notices Of motion. Ministers answered 20 questions. ' The Tobacco Growing Industry Amendment Bill was introduced , and referred to the Lands and Agriculture Select Cdmmittee.

. The Petitions Committee reported two petitions back to Parliament with a recommendation that they be referred to the Government for consideration. They were the petition Of the Anti - Vivisection Society seeking a ban On the use Of gin-traps and the. petition of the Beauty Without Cruelty group and 13,315 others} A petition of John Freeman Hunt and 700 others for corporal punishment for certain types of violent crimes was reported back, without recommendattoii.

A petition of Shirley

Joyce Dearsley, of . the Paremata Residents’ Action Committee, and 569 others, seeking improvements to the pedestrian crossing at. Paramata station was referred to the Government,, with a recommendation for favourable consideration.

A petition of Beverley Sullivan and 3205 others seeking a reduction in the price of milk in Turangi was referred to the Government for consideration. Three bills were given a second reading: the Higher Salaries Commission Amendment Bill, the Inland Revenue Department Amendment Bill, arid the Customs Act Amendment (No. 2) Bill. The second-reading debate on the Milk Amendment Bill was interrupted by the adjournment at 10.30 p.m. .
