Fine Trentham trial by Bilberry
Bilberry, the South Island’s only runner in the Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham on Saturday,. sprinted attractively in training at Riccarton on Tuesday. She was paired with her stablemate Spritely Miss for 1400 m on the plough, and it was a gallop in earnest from the start. After they cut out the opening 800 m in 495, they did well to finish on terms in, Imin 27.95. Des ' Harris has been engaged to ride Bilberry on Saturday. Of those engaged at the North Canterbury meeting on Monday, none impressed more than Trojan Bay. Boyd Buzan’s four-year-old, now unbeaten in two starts, reeled off 600 m on the small trial grass in 35.25, and made it look easy. It was a first-class solo trial, and few will look past him in their search for the winner of the A. P. Boyle Memorial at Rangiora. Fireglow recorded 35.4 s in beating Blue Genes and a Rapier filly in another 600 m trial on the grass. Star Order, ridden by his trainer Eddie Low, advanced his preparation for the North Canterbury Cup by running 1400 m on the plough in Imin 325, the last 600 m in 40s. Fair Rosamond led her stablemate Ward Street by two lengths finishing 1400 m in Imin 335, the last 600 m in 395. Bijou Lad was going well alongside Evening Rose as they ended 1400 m in Imin 32.15, the last 600 m in 39.35. Spedito, the next tried over 1400 m on the grass, returned Imin 31.85, the last 600 m in 38.85.
