Oils lead drifting market
Oil stocks, both conventional and alternative, set the pace on the Australian sharemarket yesterday as most sectors settled into a drift after two days of hectic post-election trading. Esperance led the shales with a 50c rise to 540 c as traders jostled for position ahead of today’s progress report from the Nagoorin deposit in North Queensland. Elsewhere among the Nagoorin partners, Greenvale rose 34c at 494 c, Southern Pacific rose 10c to 310 c and Central Pacific put on 30c to 820 c equal to a presplit price of $82.00. Santos led the conventional oils with an 80c
rise to a record $16.10 ant Woodside rose 8c at 343 c Vamgas gained 10c to 730 c and Hartogen put on 40c tc 630 c. . Western Mining proved one of the few big miners tc make strong progress, with a 16c gain to 626 c on new; of new gold finds in Western Australia and Victoria, but M.I.M slid 4c to 556 c after reporting at 13 pei cent profit drop for the quarter.
