Sadat attacks Syria
' President Anwar Sadat of : Egypt has said that this 1 month’s friendship treaty be- ! tween Moscow and Damlascus made Syria "the Afghanistan of the Arab j world”. Speaking to the •press after taking part in I Muslim holiday prayers on i Mount Sinai, Mr Sadat said lof the Soviet-Syrian pact: “It is a treaty to give the Soviet Union some ground in the area, and at the same time to defend (Syrian President) Hafez Assad and his Alawite regime — to save their necks.” — Cairo.
