Two surrender to police

PA Wellington Two wanted men holed up in a Ngaio house surrendered to the police after 18 members of the armed offenders squad surrounded the house yesterday morning. The police used a loud hailer to persuade them to surrender. They came out with their hands on their heads at 10.15 a.m. after a two-hour drama. The two were arrested and taken away for questioning about the armed hold-up of the Manurewa Post Office in Auckland last Friday evening. They will appear in court today. The head of the armed offenders squad, Inspector B. A. J. Rowe, said afterwards that the situation had been potentially extremely dangerous'. A search of the house, in Carroll Street, near Khandallah Road, had revealed an unloaded .303 rifle.

The police had received information that a man wanted for questioning about the armed robbery was in the area. The infor-

mant said she knew one of the men involved and that she had seen him in Carroll Street, according to the police. In Auckland yesterday, a man who tried to dispose of a shotgun after the Manurewa robbery appeared in the District Court at Otahuhu.

Oki Graham Kaiwai, aged 25, a storeman, of Manurewa, pleaded guilty when he appeared before Judge Finnigan charged with possessing a firearm in a public place. He was convicted and released on bail to November 4 for sentence.

Sergeant K. Graham told the Court that Kaiwai had admitted being present at a Weymouth Road address when the robbery was planned. His job had been to dispose of the shotgun and other items.

Last evening in Auckland a sixth arrest was made. An Ellerslie man charged with being a party to the aggravated robbery, will, appear in the District Court at Otahuhu today.
