Lift delayed

It is out of the hands of Mr Jack Wilson to do anything to shift this 800 kg meat cooler sitting on Gloucester Street. The cooler was to be lifted by helicopter this morning to the rear of the Coachman Inn (where Mr Wilson is doing painting work) but the lift was called off because of a heavy snowfall at Te Anau.

To lift the cooler, a big Squirrel helicopter, nearly as big as an Air Force Iroquois, is required. As well, Civil Aviation authorities say that for a

job of this, nature in a built-up area, the helicopter pilot must have had at least 800 flying hours on that model of machine. Whirl-Wide Helicopters,

the Timaru company employed to lift the cooler, has only one pilot with the flight experience to handle the job. He lives at Te Anau. The lift is expected to take only . five minutes but as the pilot is snowbound at Te Anau the cooler will have to stay in the street for another week.
