Pilot accused
NZPA-Reuter Bahrain Poisonous gas, not fire, killed all 301 people aboard a Saudi Arabian airliner at Riyadh Airport in August and the Lockheed Tristar’s pilot wasted valuable time in coping with the disaster, an official investigation report has said. The report, r carried by the official Saudi press agency, also said that the baggage compartment was the point of origin of the blaze which enveloped and destroyed the airliner shortly after the pilot
landed back at the airport after take-off for Jeddah. It said that the pilot wasted time by taxi-ing to a parking space instead of letting passengers off at once. Tests were continuing to determine the ' fire’s cause, the report said, ruling out explosives. It said the blaze began shortly after take-off. The report cast doubt on earlier speculation that the blaze might have been caused by two camping gas stoves found with a used fire extinguisher in the passenger cabin. t®
