Help for poorer nations
Sir, — Mr Muldoon’s recently expressed concern for the plight of the poorer nations of the world has the ring of hypocrisy about it. In 1975, the last year of the Labour Government, we contributed 0.57 per cent of our G.N.P as official aid to developing' nations. Yet this . year it is estimated that our offical aid will only amount to 0.28 per cent of our G.N.P. This means that the real level of New Zealand spending on aid has fallen drastically. As leader of our present Government, and Minister of Finance, Mr Muldoon must bear full- responsibility for this ’ declines •
in our contribution to the ' development efforts of the poorer nations. I suspect, that his motive in espousing the. cause, of the poorer nations is one of short-term political -gain as.’ he has never been known as a champion of the poor and , under-privileged 'in this country; ■ — Yours, etc., wayne McClintock.
