Prince Majestic wins
NZPA Sydney. The Takanini trainer. Ray ! Verner, scored anothre hit- i and-run coup when 'Prince' Majestic narrowly won the 1 $120,000 Spring Champion Stakes (2000 m at Randwick on Saturday. The .three-year-old which only arrived in Sydney on Tuesday night, went on to win in an impressive display after appearing blocked out of a chance about 300 m from the post. But his jockey, David Peake, took Prince Majestic through a space with Cosmic Planet alongside and they went for the line to finish with Prince Majestic just a long neck in front. Cosmic Planet’s rider, Malcolm Johnston, alleged interference by Prince Majestic. but this was dismissed by stewards. Verner was understandably very pleased after the race. “I stuck my neck out by bringing him across, but J knew 1 had a damn good horse,” he said. It was his second lightning .raid on the Sydney track. In 1978 he had made a similar trip with the outstanding stayer Good Lord, which went on for a runaway win in the Sydney Cup. in spite of the win Verner said that Prince Majestic, a Noble Bijou gelding, would be returning to New Zealand on Saturday and prepared for the New Zealand and Wellington Derbys. Verner also said he hoped to bring Prince Majestic to Sydney next year, when the horse was more mature, for a crack at the A.J.C. Derby jin the autumn. Prince Majestic cost his owners, Mr and Mrs Bob
; Ross $22,000, as a yearling at the Trentham sales and ■Mr Ross said on Saturday '.he had recently turned down ! ’an offer of $400,000 for him. I Mr Ross has also raced
Turfcutter and is a partowner of the Queensland entire, Prince Ruling, which is expected to start, in the $75,000 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday.
