Racing and trotting Light Lord looks to be pacer with great future

Light Lord emerged as one of the more exciting pacing prospects seen in Canterbury for some time when he won the Mitre Handicap at Motukarara on Saturday.
It was not so much that he won by two lengths and a' half, but the ease with which he achieved the feat that was eye-catching. ■ Light Lord raced three back on the inside until about 600 m to run, at which point, Michael de Filippi pulled him out and he was not far from the leader, Carteret, at the straight entrance. Light Lord raced very greenly and drifted out
beyond the middle of the track. Once properly straightened up he ran past the leaders and won untested by two lengths and a > half in a race in which the leaders paced their last 800 m in 59.45. “He’s got a lot to learn yet, but has plenty of ability just the same,” said Michael de Filippi. A handsome four-year-old istallion, which had one un-
placed start last season, Light Lord is trained at East Eyreton by Delvin Rickerby for Mr Steve Edge and his wife, Kathleen, of Kaituna, who was given a half-share in the horse only a few weeks ago. Light Lord has plenty going for him on breeding. He is by the double New Zealand Cup winner, Lordship, from a well-per-formed mare in Brigade’s
Advice, by Light Brigade. He is a half-brother to Kathy Brigade and Michael’s Advice.
Light Lord might have his second start for the season against the four-year-olds at Addington Raceway on Wednesday. Thunder Road fought on gamely for second to Light Lord, with Revelry getting up for . third, just ahead of Carteret.
