Shipmates tell of fatal fall
PA Dunedin Shipmates of a Russian seaman who died after being knocked into the sea 240 km south of the Chatham Islands on September 27 has! told the Coroner’s Court in Dunedin how the accident happened. The Coroner (Mr J. M. Conradson) made no finding about the death of Nikolay Tkachuk, aged 51, but said he would do so when he had the results of a post-mortem examination. He expected to reach a finding on Monday.
Witnesses said Mr Tkachuk was knocked overboard by a wire cable which jumped out of a block. He was rescued unconscious by a lifeboat crew but could not be revived.
