DC10 crash inquiry
PA Auckland An Air New Zealand captain and section head yesterday told the DCIO inquiry that since the crash he had not heard of any positive step taken within the company to ensure that such an accident did not happen again. Captain R. T. Johnson, flight manager'of Air New Zealand line operations, spent his third day under cross-examination, answering questions by counsel assisting the commission, Mr W. D. Baragwanath. Counsel asked if it would be an accurate suggestion that communication within the company was more “on an ad hoc basis’’ than in any structured or organised way. Captain Johnson agreed this would be true. The British Chief Inspector of Air Accidents, William Henry Tench, presented the commission yesterday with information on air accident investigation procedures in the United Kingdom.
