General forecast: A fresh to strong westerly airstream, is expected to continue to flow over New Zealand, with occasional showers turning to rain this morning, in the south and west of the South Island. A front over Tasmania is expected to move rapidly eastwards, bringing colder, showery south-westerlies to the south and west of the South Island this afternoon and evening, with fine weather continuing in eastern districts from Canterbury north. District forecasts:
Canterbury: Westerly winds, often strong and gusty; a few showers about the coast at first and some
rain developing about the Alps but otherwise mainly fine; mild. Marlborough: Fresh westerly winds; fine; mild.
Nelson: Fresh south-westerly winds predominating; fine at first apart from showers about the western ranges, the showers turning to more general rain later today and showers developing elsewhere; cool.
Buller, Westland: Fresh westerly winds; cloudy, with occasional showers turning to more general
rain this morning; cool.
Outlook: Showers in coastal Marlborough, western Nelson, Buller, and Westland; mainly fine elsewhere.
