Parks policy
Sir, — A letter by P.A.G. Howell (September 18) rand comments attributed to Mr M. K. Moore (“The Press,” September 18) interest me. Who else should we ask to manage our forests, but foresters. It seems to me that a small minority, in the main, city dwellers, have discovered conservation and an environment very different from that which they have to endure. Why cannot they believe the "foresters” have known about it all along — that their training and experience gives them an understanding of ecosystems and the application of science to the living world in order to meet the wide and diverse aspirations of people. Can the forester be blamed for having to work through policies and decisions made by the Government which are after all, irrespective of party, setting out to" make “New Zealand the way people want it.” — Yours, etc. JOHN M. BALNEAVES, Rangiora. September 19, 1980.
