Noon Forecast

General forecast: The cold front over New Zealand is expected to lie to the east of the country by the morning, but showers are expected to persist in western districts, especially in the South Island and also : in Southland and coastal Otago. Otherwise mainly fine weather, although the strong to gale-force westerly winds should continue. District forecasts: Canterbury: Strong or galeforce north-westerlies moderating a little and tending westerly. Rain and isolated thunderstorms about the northern alps at first, with a few showers elsewhere; some showers persisting in the west otherwise mainly fine and mild in the afternoon.

Marlborough: North-west-erlies, gale force in exposed places at first but strong westerlies gradually prevailing. Occasional rain overnight but mainly fine and milder. „ Nelson: Strong northerlies with periods of rain at first. Strong westerlies gradually prevailing with showers persisting in the west but clearing elsewhere. Milder today. Buller, Westland: Westerly winds, strong in exposed places. Cold and showery with some snow showers about the ranges. Outlook: Mainly fine in Canterbury and Marlborough; showers to the west of Nelson and occasional showers in Buller and Westland.
