Sailor rescused
An American sailor who fell overboard' from the Truxtun in the Tasman Sea on’ Saturday was rescued by crewmen in the Taranaki. Seaman Recruit Gary C. Ross Kahu, aged 18, of Waitara, the Taranaki’s watch diver, leapt over the side as the frigate closed on the drifting American sailor.
Seaman Baker, of Clayhole, Kentucky, was hauled aboard the Taranaki five minutes after he had gone overboard. The Taranaki’s crew, which practised manoverboard drills while steaming to meet the Truxtun on Friday, was praised by the' Truxtun’s. commander, Captain Mac Baldwin, for a smooth and expert rescue. ... .’,
