Mr Kerr-Taylor
A message from the Electrical Supply Authorities , Association of New Zealand president Mr Innes E. Kerr-Taylor.
I do not have to remind the people of Christchurch of the importance of electricity to our everyday living. All aspects of this vital form of energy have been very much on everybody’s mind of recent days.
; The electrical supply industry is a very important part of the electrical scene because it has the personal contact with every electrical customer in the country. The industry has a responsibility to ensure that everyone is faithfully served.
Our record is good, and as far as we are able we will continue to see that the supply of electricity is administered efficiently. We are very pleased to be having the annual conference of the Electrical Supply Authorities Association in Christchurch. From its earliest days a
lot of electrical pioneering was done in Christchurch. Our present multiple earthed neutral system of reticulation was introduced here round about 1917. It was here that most of our engineers received their technical and academic training at Canterbury University. It has been a record of progress and achievement. . Technical development is continually taking place with new methods and improved devices. Most of this is being done by the electrical manufacturing industry and so I am very pleased that the Electrical Development Association which is a part of our organisation has arranged a very comprehensive exhibition to display its products. Indeed a lot of them are made here in the Canterbury area.
I would like to congratulate all those taking part in this exhibition ana invite everybody to see it during this week. It should be of considerable interest to everybody.
