The Wizard
Sir, — I am told that the City Council actually pays the Wizard for promoting Christchurch. May I ask if this is true? I feel the ratepayers have a right to know.. — Yours, etc., M. WOOD. September 9, 1980. [Mr J. H. Gray, General Manager and Town Clerk, replies: “The City Council does nothing to impugn the Wizard’s amateur status. No, we do not pay him anything.” Mr Bruce Dunstan, secretary of the Canterbury Promotion Council, ; says: “We have not spent, any money directly on him. We do sell a number of his products: we purchase them and sell them through our office to improve our own income.” Mr M. F. Foate, secretary ■of South Island Promotion' Association, says: "The Wizard went to Auckland as part of our ‘Come South’ Week promotion in November. We met his travelling expenses and accommodation, but there was no payment for services. He was part of our promotion team.”]
