Labour sweeps Lyttelton

Lyttelton borough residents Will b 6 spared the triennial trip to the polls next month, because only the Labour Party has put forward candidates to contest the local-body elections in the borough.

The nine vacancies on the council and the mayoralty will be filled by the 10 Labour candidates. No other nominations were received by the Lyttelton Town Clerk when nominations closed yester* day.

The Christchurch City mayoralty will be contested by three candidates: the sitting Citizens Mayor (Mr Hamish Hay) the Labour candidate and sitting councillor, Mrs Mollie Clark, and an Independent candidate, Mr C. M. Hansen.

Mr Hansen will once more attempt to save his deposit, which he has consistently lost in Christchurch mayoral contests in 1971, 1974, and 1977. Other nominations appear on page 26.
