Politicians guilty in bribe case
NZPA-Reuter New York Three American politicians'and a lawyer have been convicted tn New York of taking bribes in a case which involved Federal investigators posing . as agents of ten Arab sheikh and making extensive use of TV spy cameras. Congressman Michael Myers, Mayor Angelo Errichette of Camden, New Jersey, Louis Johanson, a city councilman, and Howard Criden, a Philadelphia lawyer, were found guilty by a jury of accepting a $50,000 bribe from toe investigators, who posed as Arab agents. ..’
All four are expected to appeal against the convictions, which carry jail sentences of up to 15 years. Myers is one of six congressmen so far charged in the so-called 'Abscam investigation. The Federal officers invented an Arab Sheikh willing to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to officials ready-to use their influence on Ins behalf.
