Vanuata position for New Zealander
A New Zealand Presbyterian minister, the Rev Ken Calvert, has been appointed head of the Vanuatu Government’s Energy Department He will serve two years as energy officer for the newly formed Government of Vanuatu, formerly the New Hebrides. Mr Calvert, who has been in the islands since 1967, will be the only New Zealander working for the Government. He will be seconded from the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Setting up a Department of Energy will be part of his employment be responsible for energy, water supplies, energy-re-: lated industry and conservation. Vanuatu imports all its fuel for diesel generation of electricity. Mr Calvert is interested in the possibilities ?bf hydro-elec-tricity, geothermal power
and power from wood* ing. He will.be based in the capital. Port Vila.
