Drug bill rises fast
NZPA Wellington The average amount spent annually by New Zealanders on medical prescriptions had quadrupled in the last dccsdG The annual report of the Health Department, tabled in Parliament, reveals that the average cost of prescriptions last year was $42.43 a head.
In 1970, the average cost was $9.79.
Last year, drugs supplied by chemists to New Zealand’s 3.1 million people cost $130.7 million. The average cost of a prescription rose 17.5 per cent last year. The average cost of a prescription last year was $5.50. In 1978 it was $4.68.
