Fuchs leads cycling
NZPA-A.F.P. Noumea. Urban Fuchs of Switzerland, retained his over-all lead, in the cycling , tour of New Caledonia after Saturday’s third stage, which Included an individual time trial and an 111 km haul from Canada to- Bourail. . . The over-all placings remained much as' they were, with the West Germans, Algis Oleknavicius ’ and Herbert Brehm, both moving up the leader’s table. It was another disappointing day. however, for Australian and New Zealand cyclists. Keith Lane (Australia) was the best placed of the four who finished the stage,. He was in nineteenth position 10.40 sec back. In the over-all standings. Lane is seventeenth, Chris Turtur (Australia) is twentieth. Tony Mellsop (New Zealand) is twentysixth, and Tony Songhurst (New Zealand is twenty-seventh. The time trial did little to alter the standings and it was Oleknavicius who won the second half of the stage, ahead of the Frenchman. Marc Gomez, the
home hope. Jean-Claude Lecourieux. and Brehm. • , r, Fuchs finished 33sec back, but he.still had enough in hand to retain his over-all lead. Oleknavicius is now third over all. and Brehm fourth. Last year’s winner; the .Italian. Pascal Fortis is behind Fuchs. &
