Titles decided in squash
Case Cantwell (Marist)' and Diane Bankier (Linwood) won the division one titles in the Linwood club’s E and F grade squash tournament at the week-end. Results of the finals were:—
Men.— Division one: C< Cantwell beat S. Hobson (Cashmere), 9-6, 9-3, 9-1. Division two: G. Smith (Linwood) beat G. Cottoni (Christchurch), 2-9, 9-7, 9-2, 9-4. Division three: B. Woodfield (Linwood) beat J« Kemp (Linwood), 7-9, 10-8, 9-2, 9-11. Women.— Division one: D. Bankier (Linwood) beat S. Beattie (Christchurch Football), 9-3, 7-9, 9-3, 9-6. Division two: G. Parry (Christchurch) beat J. Barrington (Lancaster Park), 9-4, 3-9, 9-7, 9-2. Free speech King Birendra of Nepal has given the final go-ahead for a bill guaranteeing the freedom of speech and publication. The bill was drawn up by the National Legislature (Panchayat), the country’s nonparty ruling body. An official announcement said the ’ bill had now become an act. It is officially called the Freedom of Speech and Publication Act and grants people in Nepal the right to demonstrate against the Government and criticise it verbally or in print. But it outlaws grafitti, pamphlets and posters on the walls of historical monuments, and public buildings.—Katmandu.
