The four-year-old, starting from 20m, almost
doubled his handicap after a slow start,-but showed sharp speed to loop the field and reach the lead 1200 m out. From there, the race turned into a procession, Para’s Star winning by two lengths from Gay- Louisiana, which held Tigerade by half a head for third. Best Choice was just as impressive in winning the tighter class trot The five-year-old shot to the lead
ISOOm out, was never challenged after and jogged to the line five lengths clear of the favourite, Tough Girl, with Longridge' finishing on fairly for third a length and a quarter back. Game Captain, . after breaking at the start and again during the running beat only one home. Trainer Fred Fletcher had / similar luck with Roydon Albatross in the Travis Stakes.
The Albatross four-year-old, carrying $20,000 of the $70,000 pool took a while to warm to the task and, after a tardy beginning, although he stormed over the final 400 m from the back of the field in close to 28s, could not get near the winner Cyllarus, which won handily by two lengths from Elfin and Major Chance.
