Montessori group needs school funds
Montessori enthusiasts ’are struggling to find the finance necessary to establish a new school in Christchurch. The Montessori association has been offered /'p remises in , the Peterborough. Centre, the i old Teachers’ , College building on the . corner of ' ■ Peterborough Street and Montreal Street. A lease is at present being considered by the association’s , lawyers. ; As a pre-school, the •new school will have to be registered as a day-care icentre,. /-which requires compliance with child care " centre . regulations. Goldsborough, said that the grounds had to be adequately fenced, while the inside had to comply with fire regulations. A certain amount of land had to be in grass, a certain amount in concrete; with limited funds it was necessary to budget very carefully. Before getting a licence, all such conditions had to be filled. In addition, the premises had to be ready for use, with enough equipment on hand for the children to play with. iThe ’■ association will hope to open the school by October 1, Miss Goldsbrough. said. To;- help ' raise money for the; necessary work, it had been, decided to run a cake stall in Cathedral Square on Friday, August 29, during the late morning and lunch-time period.
