Open titles to Auckland
Claire Simiona and Stephen Samuel, both members of the Te Atatu club in Auckland, won the open titles in the New Zealand children’s judo championships in Christchurch over the week-end. The following mat gradings were made:— Jodi Atkinson (Gisborne Y.M.C.A.), from third kyu to second kyu; Darren Elvy (Academy, New Plymouth), to fourth kyu B; Raj Tiananga (Cobbcrkwai, Canterbury), fourth kyu to third kyu. Results were:— Boys Up to 25kg.—Lance Hilton 1, Darren Rothwell 2, Sean Mulvaney and Jonathan Woodward 25 to 30kg.—Troy Levien (Te Atatu) 1, Elvy (Academy), Gavin Chappell (Hornby) and Andrew Veal (Granity, Central Districts) 3. . 30 to 35kg.—Tiananga (Cobberkwai) 1, Tracy Kingston (Palmerston North) 2, Mathew Grant and Craig Collins .(both Cobberkwai) 3. 35 to 40kg.—Craig Monaghan (Henkada, Waikato-8.0.P.) 1, Lee Svlva (Howick, Auckland) 2, Gregory Temple . (Western Heights, Waikato-8.0.P.) and Gregory Gantlev (Howick, Auckland) 3. 40 to 45kg.—D. Wairepo (Rangitira, Auckland) 1. M. Simmons (North Shore) 2, K. Shades (Western Heights) and C. Hibbert (North Shore) 3.
