Taranaki superior
PA New Plymouth Taranaki scored five tries to two in beating Horowheanu, 28-16, in a ‘ North Island second division rugby match at New Plymouth on Saturday. Four of the home side’s tries were scored by its All Blacks — two to the winger, Murray Watts, and one each to the half-back, David Loveridge, and the flanker, Graham Mourie.
Although Horowhenua scored two tries late in the second spell Taranaki was
clearly the superior team. It was held to 12-6 at half-time only through some excellent defensive work by Horowhenua. Horowhenua’s six firsthalf points came from two penalties to the fly-half, Mark Liddicoat. Scorers.— Taranaki: Murray Watts 2, Mourie, Loveridge and Wetton tries, Davidson 4 conversions, 28. Horowhenua: W. Robinson, T. Hooper tries, M. Liddicoat 2 penalties and a conversion, 16.
