South Ward work
Sir, —In reply to Cr Peter Skellerup (August 26): The main point made in my address, not fully reported, was that Cr Skellerup had been transferred as a candidate from the East ward to the South Ward by the Citi-
zens Association for political purposes. When he was chosen for the East Ward it was stated that his interests were in the Woolston and Estuary areas. According to all accounts he represented the area in the best interests of his association. So obviously he was transferred for political purposes. It is worthy of note that he was not reappointed as chairman of the parks and recreation committee by the Citizens .councillors, after being chairman for some time. I concede that saying that Cr Skellerup had done nothing for the South Ward was perhaps too strong a statement, but I contend the Labour representatives have been more active, particularly. in attending important meetings and making inspections in the area.—Yours, etc., R. M. MACFARLANE. August 28, 1980.
