Results of junior sports events

RUGBY Otago will meet Southland today in the final of the under-18 South Island rugby tournament after a week of matches in Westport. Otago beat Marlborough 22-10 yesterday. Other results: North Otago beat West Coast 20-8; Southland beat Mid-Canter-bury 55-6; South Canterbury beat Buller 25-10. Canterbury will meet Southland in the final of the South Island under-16 rugby tournament today. , t , In the semi-finals yesterday, Canterbury defeated Mid-Canter-bury 23-11 and Southland beat Nelson Bays 23-14. Other matches played: North Otago 11, Otago 4; Buller 13, West Coast 10. Marlborough stormed home with a flurry of late scoring to beat Nelson 184 in the final of the Seddon Shield schoolboys’ rugby competition in Nelson yesterday. ‘ ' Marlborough have won the series for the last four years. Nelson, with good tackling, held Marlborough to 4-all for three-quarters of the match but had no answer for a final burst from the superior Marlborough backs.

A combined team was named after the tournament. The team will play Canterbury on September 16 at Greymouth. Nine of the 19 named are from the winning Marlborough team.
