NZPA Sydney The liner Rasa Sayang, well-known to many New Zealand cruise holidaymakers, caught fire and sank at the Greek port of Piraeus early yesterday morning. Noone was injured in the fierce fire. ‘ '

She was under a four-year charter to the London-based C.T.C. Line.

The line’s New Zealand director, Mr Les Goss, said he had been told by telephone that the fire got a quick hold of the ship and there seemed to be inadequate fire-fighting aid available. Mr Goss said the interests of : the 700 New Zealanders booked for the 821-passenger ship’s cruise were ‘ safe; guarded. “Deposits and fare are in a trust account The money can be refunded or left in the account We will be looking urgently for a- replacement ehip.”
