Airport petition
A petition calling on the Government to approve extensions to the Christchurch Airport runway and to stop the diversion of revenue from the airport will be tabled in Parliament today by the member for Yaldhurst (Mr M. A Connelly). The petition, organised by the Labour mayoral candidate, Mrs Molly Clark, has 12,000 signatures from around the South Island. The petition will remain open and
another batch will be sent to Wellington after more people have signed. Mrs Clark said there was a growing interest in Christchurch Airport by overseas airlines and. recently Mount Cook Airline had sought Government, approval for a Tasman service.
The petition has been sent to Mr Connelly because the airport is within his constituency. _____
