RESTAURANTS

I Budapest This restaurant will be open in about two weeks. As the name suggests they will serve HUNGARIAN FOOD. The proprietor/ chef is Hungarian, the menu is in Hungarian (Eng. translations), and the dishes are traditional authentic Hungarian dishes. The decor is restrained rich, there is a silver service-and prices are reasonable — $3 for an entree, $7 for a main course $2 for dessert (approximately). The menu too is restrained rich .. . Fish Paprikas, Pork in sauerkraut and sour cream. Stuffed cabbage rolls, Artichokes, Chicken breasts stuffed with Camembert, Roast duckling boned and in a black cherry sauce, veal dishes, palacintas... Watch for THE OPENING news. RESTAURANT BUDAPEST, opposit Federal Motors •in Manchester Street. BYO. Reservations. Phone 60-778. BEAeHeOMBE®. From Wednesday evening on—Sumner attracts the cognoscenti, and the fish-eating gourmands. The zenith is reached on Sundays when THE BEACHCOMBER is THE place for Sunday lunch, and the mecca for the-returning-from-tho-mountains-people on Sunday evenings. Not that this is RangeRover country. No, no. The appeal of THE BEACHCOMBER to the afore-mentioned seekers of fine'food lies in their reasonable prices for their superb fish dishes and grills. And, yes they do have Japanese food as well. A tiny suggestion—the prawn I cocktails are excellent. And if you like crayfish, you must try the grilled cray with mushroom and prawn sauce. Me? I can never go past Steek-and-lobster. Love it. THE BEACHCOMBER ... on the beach at Sumner. BYO. Reservations. Phone Sumner 6592. COKERS HOTEL Tradition means many things to many people. But I know you will agree that the traditions at COKERS HOTEL are universal in their appeal. Who can resist starched white tablecloths, heavy cutlery, truly excellent, concerned-with-little-details-seryice—and of course a very good table. The dinner menu at COKERS during the week offers 24 main courses alone—and as for weekends ... if you haven t heard . from friends about the pleasure of taking the family on Sunday's to COKERS, let me be the first to insist— GO! COKERS is also THE restaurant for lunch. If your lunch hour is % an hour or two hours—COKERS is ideal. The working business lunch is a common thing at COKERS- perhaps because the businessman appreciates the very traditional price ... 4 course lunch—4s.so. COKERS HOTEL, 52 Manchester Street. Full Licence. Phone 798-580. Good news and bad news. The last of the oysters are about to be served. But- the first of the whitebait will be along any day now— and SPRATTS make the best whitebait patty ever. They use whitebait with , reckless abandon, as if it was still 2/6d a kerosene tin. Something else you will like . , . SPRATTS Seafood Chowder. A real New England chowder, and good to start the meal with. From September 14, Sunday rejoins the week at SPRATTS... and the inner city happens again. Young lovers, old lovers, hungry ski-iers, Sunday movie-goers, after Church-ers, visitors. SPRATTS is waiting for you on a Sunday. For lunch and for dinner. From September 14. SPRATTS, Oxford Teo (near Noahs). BYO. Reservations. And you sit in the sun over a continental lunch , - • creme of onion soup? Pate on rye with salad? Salmon? Chicken in a lemon and cream sauce? Fillet of sole with shrimp sauce? With dessert and coffee. That is the lunchtime scene seven days a week at THE ESPLANADE (you may have just sandwiches and coffee if you wish). From Wednesday to Sunday, THE- ESPLANADE is open for dinner from 7 p.m., and the sea reflects evening skies and soft lights. The Maltese Nights on Wednesday are so popular they have spread to Thursday as well, but bookings are still essential.’For marvellous food, a great view, and a greet time . . . THE ESPLANADE, by the sea at Scarborough. BYO; Reservations. Phone Sumner 6987. I always enjoy myself here. To start with I like Country Music (resident artists-Kevin Boyce, Tony Courtis). 1 like the food. A blackboard menu Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner, full a la carte menu Friday and Saturday evenings. Sunday's are fundays at THE CANTERBURY INN—always something special, entertainment-wise menu-wise... which families appreciate. And most of us do have families! Hike the Happy Hours. Wednesday 5-6.30 p.m. and Sundays 5 K-6 30 p.m. And 1 like their new decorating theme—a fascinating Early Canterbury. They have recreated (or will have from Sept. 2) an excellent lookback into our early days. This is the most fun museum anywhere. THE CANTERBURY INN, 110 Mandeville £ Street. Reservations.
