Leader’s address tomorrow
Social Credit’s leader, Mr B. C. Beetham, will now address delegates to the four-day conference tomorrow, instead of Friday. The change in timing has been forced by threatened industrial action by Television New Zealand production staff. Some staff throughout New Zealand are unhappy about delays in salary talks and have decided to strike today. The production staff who had decided to strike included technical producers and floor managers, without whom an outside broadcast could not be put out, said television’s head of programme services in Christchurch (Mr M. P. Robinson). But as far as he knew news items on the conference would still go ahead as cameramen and sound technicians were not affected. The deputy leader, Mr J. Dwyer, will now speak to delegates on Sunday.
