S.I. snow reports
The New Zealand Snow Centre reports that heavy rain or thaw conditions over recent days have meant less snow than last week in some areas in spite of fresh falls at a few areas.
Conditions have generally tended to move towards either hard-packed or spring snow skiing.
Snow reports provided by the centre (with all facilities operating in each of the areas unless stated) yesterday were:— Mount Hutt.—locm of fresh powder on firm base; chains to je carried. Porter Heights.—Good spring snow on northern slopes; all lifts except T-bar operating; snow groomer transport to top tows, T-bar expected to be repaired and operating end of ewek; chains to be carried. Tekapo.—All slopes groomed; chains required. Lake Ohau.—Hard packed snow
on 40cm base; chains required. Treble Cone.—Last fall on August 26; average base b£ 80cm; spring snow conditions; chains to be carried. Mount Dobson.—Firm snow conditions; chains required. - ; - Coronet Peak.—Last fall of 10 cm on August 25; lower slope) hard packed; upper packed powder; good ski-ing;. carry chains. Erewhon. —Good ski-ing conditions.
Mount Cook ski region;—Last fall on August 26; good ski-ing conditions on firm snow; heliski and glacier ski-ing operating weather permitting, bookings essential. t ; ..; • ; Mount . Cheeseman.—No . new snow; 45cm base, spring ski-ing conditions; chains required. t Broken River.—Reasonable skiing conditions; chains required, Craigieburn.—Good ski-ing''con-ditions; chains to be carried.
