TEAM WORK A successful committee might best be described as one in which everyone plays a part and there is ho wastage of skills. So when a . committee in Christchurch decided on a working bee to clean up its domain, it was not surprising that the job of providing morning tea fell to a woman member who had a reputation for the excellence of her baking. , The date of the working bee was some M’eeks after the decision was taken and the M'oman, much to her embarrassment, forgot completely about the role she had undertaken to play. It came as a rude shock to her when her telephone rang late one Saturday morning and a parched voice asked how long the cuppa was going to be. The M'oman admitted her oversight

and offered to at least partly redeem herself by rushing over a thermos of tea and any food she could lay her hands on. But the workers declined the offer, saying they M’ere just about finished anyway. However, a second working bee was deemed necessary the following week and this time the woman vowed and declared she would not forget. She was true to her word and the] morning’s toil was broken for a feast that was fit for a king. It was so good, in fact, that the workers were disinclined to resume their labours, some over-eating to the point that all they wanted to do was doze in the! sun.

The M’oman had no regrets. Her pride was restored and her reputation, if anything, enhanced.
